You want to have a healthy culture at your workplace. You want your employees to be healthy, stress-free, enthusiastic, happy, motivated and bubbling with great ideas at the cutting edge of productivity!
A 5-day, 10:00-6:00 routine is really not the best way of fuelling the happiness or productivity quotient of anyone unless something interesting and out-of-the-box is happening. Realistically speaking, most of us are trying to simply be able to stick to schedules, whether it’s getting to work on time or the deliverables. Here are some simple ideas that don’t require looking into your budget of time or money.
1. Create an “About Us” page on your intranet
Where everyone’s birthday, hobbies and more can be known.
2. Clothing drives
Ask people to bring their old clothes for donation.
3. Create a High-Five board
Have a board where employees can write down anyone’s name and something they’d like to appreciate about them related to work.
4. Have a gratitude board
Hang a dedicated board where everyone writes what they are grateful for, at least once in a week. Focusing on gratitude has been known to even cure clinical depression.
5. Post smileys and happy thoughts all around your office
Post happy quotes and smileys everywhere, like the one below. Keep changing the quotes and the spots once in a while.
6. Bring in a guest speaker to talk about wellness
Bring in a guest speaker to talk about wellness, nutrition or maybe how stretching periodically during work hours can boost their mood, alertness and productivity.
7. Make Friday nights, health specials
Conduct a healthy recipe competition, badminton competition, even an egg in the spoon race! Or get everyone to bring one healthy snack on a turn-wise basis. Regular or excessive alcohol intake is degenerative to health causing early ageing, greying of hair, digestion problems and lack of focus, to name a few.
8. Have a relaxation room at your workplace
Have a room that has a soothing ambience. Place one bean bag, one soft rug and a music system with headphones. Have about a dozen relaxation audios and videos in it for 2 min, 5 min or 10 minutes. There are a host of them to choose from – body scan techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, yoga nidra, visualisation techniques and more. A good relaxation audio can help refresh a person equivalent to two hours of sleep.
9.Let your incentives and prizes be wellness based
A discount on a gym or yoga studio membership, a month’s supply to whole organic foods, massage coupons, tickets to art or music concerts are a few examples.
10.Create a wellness calendar
Have all wellness related programs and initiatives scheduled in your company calendar. That way everyone will know what’s happening, will be present and will be more appreciative. You can even post a print of the calendar where everyone can clearly see it.
11. The one kilometer challenge
For one month, everyone tracks how many days they ran at least 1 kilometer. The winner at the end of the month gets a prize.
12. The seven hour sleep challenge
For one month, employees track how many nights they slept at least 7 hours. The winner at the end of the month gets a prize.
13. Eight glasses of water challenge
For one month, employees track how many days they drank at least 8 glasses of water. The winner at the end of the month gets a prize.
14. The no talk challenge
From 10am to 12pm, try banning any non-urgent meetings and interactions on Tuesdays. It’ll help everyone in the office get more work done early in the week so that the end of the week can be less stressful.
15. Post tips for preventing back pain and eye strain
Post attractive infographics that everyone can read and benefit from. This small step can ease a lot of headaches, body aches and maintain a more elevated mood.
